Tours with the Greeters and Guides |
All members, and especially our new members, are welcomed to sign up for one of our tours at Fisher Island Map Room. However, participating on the tour can be a challenge for those not familiar with There. Here are some tips to help you enjoy the tour.
- Accept the Tour IM invitation
- Keep the IM box open
Most of our tours have too many participants and cover too much distance to do via vehicle. When you arrive at Spice Slope, one of the Greeter's will IM you. Accept the IM. That IM box is your tour bus, keep it open! The tour guide will talk to you in there about where you are visiting, and the guide will summon you from place to place using the summon button on the IM window. If you close the IM box, you may miss the summons to your next spot.
- Stay clicked in the box if you can.
The tour guide will speak to you in the box to tell you about where you are and to answer your questions. If you talk outside the box, the IM box may stop scrolling the conversation. If it seems to you that the IM chat has stopped, grab the scroll bar on the right side and pull to the bottom. That should bring you current with the chat. Note: The tour guide will rarely speak to you outside the IM box, as this causes more people to lose the IM chat scroll.
- Add the tour guide to your buddy list.
If you get disconnected or are in other ways lost from the tour, IM the tour guide to add you back to the IM window. This is easier to do, if you have added the guide to your buddy list.
- Don't become alarmed or offended if you get a message saying you have been removed from the tour.
- Don't click to return to the tour if a pop up message threatens to remove you.
Tours are scheduled at a funzone for the purpose of inviting people. Tours can't possibly stay in the funzone, or you wouldn't be touring much. The software is set up to warn people when they are leaving an event. Just ignore those warnings. They are attaching you to the Spice Slope stage and the Tour is attached to the IM chat, once we leave. Just click off the warnings or hit "cancel," if you get a chance to do that.
- Don't worry if you bounce a bit.
When you are loading new graphics, you may bounce, especially when loading a platform you stand on. If the bouncing becomes too much, you may want to wait and do a tour when you have had a few more days in world and have loaded more of the game graphics.
